Travelling Troubles!
By SizeNet | 1 November 1999 | Filed under Opinion
Hello everyone!
With the onset of Winter (wasn't it only last month I was writing about Autumn?), I manage to find even more time to write as I cosy up to the log fire that we have already had to set in the fireplace.
Marilyn of COLCHESTER in England emailed SizeNet with her experiences of travelling with EUROLINES COACHES on a recent coach trip to Spain. Marilyn is of a fuller figure, as is her husband and their experiences sounded familiar to me and I thought them appropriate for this months THUMBS DOWN. KINGS CROSS STATION, London, England gets the THUMBS UP for using their noggins!
THUMBS DOWN - November 1999
Marilyn of COLCHESTER, England and her husband travelled by coach three weeks ago on what they hoped to be the trip of a lifetime - revisiting Barcelona where they spent their honeymoon 15 years ago. Marilyn said that the first coach they went on to travel through France was luxurious with plenty of leg room and stall space in the on board toilets. The coach was even able to accommodate her husband's insulin refridgeration requirements. They were suitably impressed. They had a wonderful time by the sound of things but were unprepared for the return journey. The returning coach trip meant an unscheduled coach change at Tours in France and as they reembarked upon the rest of the return journey in an older style coach they realised the journey was going to be a long one. The second coach had no refridgeration facilities although luckily Marilyn was travelling with a small coolbag. Also, the seat spaces were limited and Marilyn and her husband were "squeezed into seats that could not have been comfortable for the regular sized let alone us with a few extra stone between us! It really was horrible! I think that in future I shall just stay at home - it wrecked the memories of a wonderful holiday!"
Well done EUROLINES, one more unsatisfied customer! The same problems that we hear of over and over again - seat dimensions on public transport need to be reassessed in order to take into account the growing (quite literally) population and not alienate a proportion of the population by continuing to operate on antiquated size averages!
THUMBS UP - November 1999
I hear that the restrictive turnstyles at KINGS CROSS STATION, London, England have been removed and replaced with more accommodating versions! At last, someone, somewhere in the public transport section IS getting the message! JACKIE of CLAPHAM, London, England, an ample dress size 26 "and proud of every inch - I worked hard on this body to get it looking like this!" was pleasantly surprised when visiting the station on the way to the North of England.
Keep the emails coming - I do read them all as they arrive and answer them as quickly as I can - the deluge calms down occasionally! Your suggestions and ideas for this article and others are warmly recieved!
Look forward to next month!
